Twitter rolling out new Web design

Twitter users will be seeing a new look on their desktops and laptops soon, one that will look familiar if they also use the app on their smartphones.

In a post Monday afternoon, Twitter announced “a refreshed twitter.com reflecting the look & feel of our iOS & Android apps.”

The look won’t be a change for some users. Twitter has been testing out the new design on about 1% of people who use the site, studying their habits and making tweaks before rolling it out to everyone.

The main change, other than aesthetics, is a built-in “compose” box in the left rail of the Web page. The new location eliminates the old pop-up style compose box and appears to be a way for Twitter to encourage more users to actually tweet instead of just browse.

Twitter has said in the past that as many as 40% of its users are “lurkers,” folks who read what others post but don’t share anything themselves.

Users also will see their profile and header photos at the top of a rail on the left of the page. The main Twitter feed appears to be largely unchanged.

The new design had not appeared for all users as of Tuesday. Twitter didn’t offer a specific timetable,

Top 6 Tech Expectations in 2014

2013 gave us alot of advancement in technology and gave a glimpse about what is to come in 2014. we hope these gadgets would finally get strong and come true this year (2014)

6. Security Apps

With smartphones getting more and more popular and replacing traditional devices, all kinds of data is stored and transfered through this tiny gadget. Everything from bank account numbers to credit card transactions are carried out via smartphones. And almost everyone with a smartphone is perpetually checking emails or forwarding messages which means work secrets are there too. It would be great if, with all the sensitive data floating about, we see a rise in security apps and better means to manage privacy.

5. Smartwatches

They might have failed so far but done the right way, smartwatches can be more of an accessory than a hindrance. Rumours of Apple and Google both working on individual smartwatches have been floating about since long and we hope 2014 is the year we see the real smartwatch evolution. Also, it would be great if Samsung and Sony too revamp designs and come up with an innovative offering.

4. Communication Technologies

We saw a definite rise in WiFi hubs usage and the advent of NFC in 2013. We hope to see more telecommunication technologies coming to the fore in 2014. Also, while the world has quickly moved on with 4G and LTE speeds, some part of the world areĀ  still struggling with 3G. It would be great if some of the technologies like NFC, LTE and WiFi spots become a common feature in major world cities this year.

3. Wallets

With Bitcoins gaining momentum, looks like the era of digital currency is finally upon us. Google experimented with the e-wallet and virtual ways of managing currency are gaining popularity. We expect 2014 to give wings to this change and to see governments slowly embrace the digital currency. There are still a lot of questions that remain unanswered and dounts that linger wihen it comes to this mode of payment and it would be great to see the issues finally resolved this year.

2. Google Glass

Google Glass debuted with much fanfare last year and quickly got mired in controversies with lawmakers labelling the device as a threat. Also, after nearly a year of launch, Google Glass is still not available to the common man. The device which created headlines (some not so appealing as Sergey Brin will affirm) is still under developer version and rarely used. It would be nice to see Google Glass make a public debut in 2014.

1. Smart TV

With touch devices getting more and more common, it is no surprise that televisions are also getting the ‘smart’ label. We expect 2014 to bring huge changes to the TV industry. Not just are TVs getting smarter but they’re also getting bigger with improved displays. Samsung launhced the world’s biggest TV in the last week of 2013 and this we guess, just set the trend for television industry in 2014.
